Yoga and Pilates FAQs

What is Mat Pilates?

Mat Pilates is based on the original exercises of Joseph Pilates. It can be modified for any age, body or fitness level, and can even be done in a chair. It can help posture, coordination, body awareness and balance. This is a group exercise class, not clinical Pilates. If you have a serious injury, check with your medical practitioner first.

What is yoga?

Yoga brings together breathing, movement and stillness to help you connect with your mind and body. We take a trauma-sensitive approach, so you always choose how you move or rest. It is not about looking a certain way or reaching a perfect pose.

I can't do everything. Is that okay?

Yes. Options are offered for every movement, and you are always welcome to take a variation that suits your body or rest at any time. It can take a few classes for your body to get used to moving and breathing in a new way.

What should I wear?

Wear clothes you can move in, such as shorts and a T-shirt, leggings and a layered top, or trackies.

What should I bring?

A mat (chairs are provided if you need one), a water bottle and a towel. Please bring your own props, such as a blanket or towel to pad your knees and a pillow or bolster. A few props are available to borrow.

Is it my first visit?

Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill in the participant information and waiver form.

I have an injury or disability. Can I join?

Yes. You can stand, sit in a chair, sit on the floor or lie down at any time, whatever the facilitator is doing. If you are unsure, check with your medical practitioner first.

Is the Wednesday chair yoga really free?

Yes. Wednesday chair yoga at Rossmoyne is free, sponsored by the City of Casey. Bookings are required.
