20-hour training FAQs

What is the 20-hour Foundational Training?

An introduction to Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) theory and practice. It meets the prerequisites to apply for the 300-hour TCTSY Certification Program. The training is not intended as an intervention for people who have experienced trauma. Talking about trauma, even in professional training, can be triggering or overwhelming.

How is TCTSY different from "regular" yoga?

The focus is not on yoga shapes or stretches. Yoga forms are used as chances to make choices about moving or not moving your body. TCTSY may look, feel and sound different from a gym or studio class, and it may feel slower at first. You can take your own options and pace at any time.

Are the sessions online? Do I need my camera on?

Yes, the course runs on Zoom. You choose whether your camera is on or off. The facilitator is spotlighted during practice.

What do I need to take part?

An internet connection and a computer or laptop with a webcam and microphone. Suggested props are a yoga mat, a chair, and a pen and paper. You are welcome to have anything else you need, such as snacks, a blanket or towel, a bolster or blocks.

Is this group therapy?

No. You will not be asked to share trauma history or process memories. The facilitator may be a clinician, but is there to hold the space for practice and to teach trauma-sensitive theory.

I have a physical injury or disability. Can I take part?

Yes. You can stand, sit in a chair or on the floor, or lie down at any time, whatever the facilitator is doing. TCTSY can be practised by anybody, including people with limited mobility, flexibility or limbs.

What is your cancellation policy?

Minimum numbers apply.

If you cancel with 28 or more days' notice, there is no charge. If you cancel with less than 28 days' notice, 50% of the total booking fee is charged. If you cancel with less than 48 hours' notice, 100% of the total booking fee is charged. To cancel, email enquiries@atec.vic.edu.au.

Transfers are welcome, so you can nominate a colleague to attend in your place. If ATEC cancels, you can move to another date or get a full refund.

Can I pay by instalments?

Yes, instalments are available on request. Email enquiries@atec.vic.edu.au to discuss.

Ready to take the next step?
